Sherborn Warns Residents Kratom Now Classified Schedule 1 Drug
Sherborn Town Hall issued a public health advisory this week alerting residents that kratom, a plant-derived substance, has been temporarily classified as a Schedule 1 controlled substance in Massachusetts. The notice was one of two items Town Hall posted to its News Flash feed late Monday.

Kratom is a plant native to Southeast Asia whose compounds can act as a stimulant in low doses and produce opioid-like effects at higher doses, the town said in an Aug. 24 News Flash post. The substance has been temporarily categorized as a Schedule 1 controlled substance in Massachusetts, according to the notice.
Town Hall also posted an update to the Sherborn Hazard Mitigation Plan late Monday. The document, required under state and federal emergency management guidelines, outlines a community's strategy for reducing risk from flooding, storms and other natural hazards.
