Sherborn Select Board Votes to Seek State Financial Management Review of Town Government

SHERBORN — May 14, 2026 — Sherborn Select Board votes to request state financial management review amid budget concerns. The board voted unanimously Thursday to authorize Chair Stephen Tsai to formally request that the Massachusetts Division of Local Services conduct a financial management review of town government — the first such review since 2012, when roughly two-thirds of the agency's recommendations were eventually implemented. Brian Conley, chair of the Governance Task Force, told the board the division has a four-month backlog and would likely begin work around August, with findings expected by October. The board also reorganized, reelecting Tsai as chair, Dan Staple as vice chair, and Jeff Waldron as clerk. Sustainability Manager Amelia Landau reported the town's new 30-month electricity aggregation contract, signed and effective for the June metering cycle, will raise the standard residential plan by about $10 per month while saving select-plan customers just over $2, and that Sherborn expects $7,000 to $8,000 this year from the state recycling dividends program, up from roughly $2,500 last year.
