Sherborn Select Board Creates Veterans Committee, Opens Transfer Station Overhaul Debate

Select Board · Meeting of July 9, 2026

Sherborn Select Board votes to create a Veterans Services Committee and approves a Purple Heart community designation while opening a wide-ranging debate on transfer station policy. The four-member board — Chair Steven L. Tsai, Vice Chair Dan Sichel, Clerk Jeff Waldron, and Member Paul DeRensis, with Marian Neutra absent — unanimously approved both veterans items, proposed by Veterans Officer Ian Rogers, who estimated four Purple Heart roadway signs would cost roughly $700, covered by his existing budget.

The board also confirmed two appointments: Kelly McClintock to the Disability Advisory Committee and Sarah Wragge to the Town Forest Committee for a three-year term expiring June 15, 2029. Fiscal year 2026 deficit transfers of $2,000 for town buildings and $9,000 for the transfer station were approved, along with a shift of $147,000 from the reserve fund to the health insurance account for prior June transfers. Sichel framed the transfer station debate in stark terms: "We are paying more per capita for waste hauling than any other town." The board took no votes on transfer station policy but directed a working group to begin drafting a formal policy and invited hauler Ruane and Father to attend the next meeting.
