Sherborn Select Board adopts compensation overhaul for 52 non-union town employees

SHERBORN — April 28, 2026 — Sherborn Select Board unanimously adopts new compensation plan for 52 non-union employees. The board voted April 28 to accept a February 2026 classification and compensation study by Capital Strategic Solutions, expanding the town's pay grade structure from five grades to ten and placing employees on the next highest step of the new scale — a conservative implementation recommended by the Personnel Board that carries a first-year cost of approximately $64,000, already set aside in the budget. Human Resources Director Robin Sino and consultants Jen Thompson and Heather Lemieux reported that most positions fall below market rates, with the town's last three department head hires requiring top-step or above-top-step offers to secure candidates. The board also awarded a three-year landscaping island maintenance contract to Chiro Carboni and Sons of Newtonville at $28,765 per year — saving an estimated $14,000 annually over recent costs — and approved a $5,000 pedestrian safety assessment near Chickering Elementary School, pending a MassDOT grant decision on a companion crossing project at the regional school campus.
