Sherborn Panel Unanimously Backs $506,250 Pine Hill School Water Tank Replacement

Sherborn's Capital Budget Committee unanimously recommended a $506,250 appropriation to replace the aging water storage system at Pine Hill Elementary School. The vote, taken at the February 3 meeting, was driven by a Department of Environmental Protection directive requiring the work to be completed this summer; the existing steel tank inside the building has deteriorated to the point that it must be removed rather than recoated, and the project will add space for PFAS filtration and water softening equipment the school currently lacks. Town Administrator Jeremy told the committee that fully funding the compiled fiscal year 2027 capital plan would raise excluded debt service by $360,000, pushing total debt service above the informal 5 percent of operating budget benchmark the committee has been tracking.

An $80,000 free-cash request to replace the assessor's office computer-assisted mass appraisal software was discussed but held for a later vote. The committee's next meeting is tentatively set for February 17, with regional school capital requests and public works facilities items still pending.
