Sherborn Capital Committee Backs Police Vehicle, Assessor System in Twin Votes

Sherborn's Capital Planning Committee voted unanimously to recommend $155,000 in free cash spending while deferring nearly $1 million in town building and transfer station projects at its February 17 meeting. The three-member panel voted 3-0 to recommend $75,000 for a new police vehicle and 3-0 to recommend $80,000 for a replacement assessors' computer-assisted mass appraisal system, both from free cash. A separate 2-0 vote, with one abstention, recommended the town appropriate up to $927,000 — Sherborn's share of a $1.58 million regional high school roof restoration — pending bid results due March 6.

The committee also approved $75,000 for design and feasibility work on four town building projects, but tabled an $814,000 town buildings borrowing package and a $175,000 transfer station electrical upgrade after DPW Director Sean left the meeting during a tense exchange over the history of past capital appropriations. Regional school facilities director Don warned that further delay on the high school roof would eliminate the restoration option and force a full replacement costing approximately $3 million.
