Board votes $300,000 overlay release to free cash

Sherborn Board of Assessors releases $300,000 to free cash. The Board voted unanimously 3-0 to release funds from the Overlay to Free Cash for FY 2027, with Finance Director Deb Siefring noting the Town typically retains $150,000 to cover exemptions, abatements, and Appellate Tax Board cases. The Board also unanimously approved a FY 2027 Chapter 61B conservation application for a Prospect Street parcel.
In separate business, Town Administrator Jeremy Marsette announced a Capital Request for $80,000 for new Assessing Software is being placed on the Town Meeting warrant for public bidding, as the town's current Patriot Properties/Catalis software faces imminent loss of vendor support. Chair Kevin Rudden recommended the Board prioritize good local customer service when evaluating the four platforms currently available to Massachusetts municipalities.
